AccesSport America and AIMTRITEAM Social Responsibility

AccesSportAmerica

Since the founding of the team in 2004, AIMTRITEAM has been formally engaging in fundraising and in supporting activities for a like-minded outside organization. The idea behind our involvement is to "give back" to our community as a team. The first step in this endeavor was to find a worthy, community-based organization with sports at its core. A good reputation and outstanding services and leadership were other essential qualities that we sought in our partner organization. After much research, the AIM Social Responsibility Committee selected AccesSport America to be our partner organization for the 2005 season.

AccesSport America was founded in 1995 and is "dedicated to the discovery of higher function and achievement for children and adults with disabilities through high challenge sports". They currently serve about 600 participants.

Our involvement with AccesSport America has included:

Sponsor an Athlete

AIM members, working either as individuals or in small groups/teams, are matched up with athletes from AccesSport America to help them meet personal athletic goals. The goal for most of the challenged athletes is to complete a race of some sort, e.g. triathlon or road race. AIM members help these athletes with training and competing. Competing together can mean forming relay teams or assisting the athlete in the event (i.e. pushing a wheelchair, balancing a segway or accompanying on the run or bike).

Mayor's Cup Regatta

The annual AccesSport America Mayor's Cup Regatta takes place in June on the Charles River Esplanade. Typically, around 40 teams race in this outstanding integrated Hawaiian Outrigger Race. AIM was responsible for greeting, giving out leis, and manning boats.

Personal Training with Athletes

AIM members assist AccesSport physical/therapists with existing and on-going training at regular times at the following locations:

Fundraising

AIM members also raise money for AccesSport America by participating in any type of race such as a first triathlon, road race, or longer distance triathlons such as a Half-Ironman or Ironman. The amount of money raised is up to individual members.
